Creating a safe space for our community to share wellness goals and provide guidance on prioritizing health and balance throughout the year.

This empowering 90-minute session is designed to help us reconnect, refocus, and set the tone for a healthier and more balanced 2025. We’ll hear from four dynamic speakers who are leaders in their fields and in our community, offering expert guidance on fitness, mental health, resilience, and wellness for Black women.

Meet Our Speakers:

Carly Britton, Owner/Founder-Diligent Fitness: A former Division-1 Track and Field athlete,  Carly is passionate about fitness and nutrition. Over the course of her athletics and fitness journey, she has learned resilience and tenacity and brings those same qualities into operating Diligent Fitness and coaching her clients. Carly’s primary focus is helping busy women get off the treadmill and into the weight room so they can build strong bodies, lose fat, and have more energy for their demanding lives.

Dr. Riana Elyse Anderson, Psychologist | Speaker | Scholar | Innovator: A Detroit native, Dr. Riana Elyse Anderson is an Associate Professor at Columbia University’s School of Social Work. Her life’s mission is to dropkick the impact of racism and she has done just that through applied interventions and the development of theory and measurement to better conceptualize and measure strategies to combat racial stress. She recently completed two yearlong fellowships at Harvard University’s Hutchins Center for African and African American Research and Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Anderson earned her PhD in Clinical and Community Psychology at the University of Virginia and completed a Clinical and Community Psychology Residency at Yale University’s School of Medicine and a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Applied Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also holds a BA in Psychology/Political Science from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Chidimma Ozor Commer, Transformative Consultant | Therapist: Founder of Chidimma Ozor Consulting, and with over 25 years of experience as a social justice advocate, licensed clinical social worker, therapist, and educator, Dr. Ozor Commor is dedicated to fostering inclusive and equitable environments across various sectors. Her work spans from guiding police departments and businesses through essential conversations on diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging to helping nonprofits and educational institutions implement anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices. To that end, her private therapy practice focuses on the mental health needs of Black women, Black folks, and LGBTQ+ community members. Dr. Ozor Commer holds a PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Boston in Global Inclusion and Social Development and an MSW degree from the University of Michigan School of Social Work.

Dr. Shane Dodd, Board-Certified Psychiatrist: Dr. Dodd is a Forensic PsychiatristHuron Valley Consultation Center. She graduated from University of Michigan Medical School, and is also a Harvard University alum.  She is who we call an UBMA “OG” because she has been speaking, encouraging and sharing her professional knowledge with our UBMA community since our first virtual Wellness Health Talk in 2020.
